Temples of Angkor

Southern gate into Angkor Thom, a walled complex holding a number of temples:

At the heart of Angkor Thom is the 'Bayon'. This was the King's state temple and held an extensive library. The temple has 54 towers. Each is topped with 4 smiling faces of Avalokiteshvara. The faces point north, south, east and west. There are some 216 in all.
